Most of the short stories in White Limo explore one of the most underrated influences on women's lives: girlhood friendships. From the adolescent girl in the title story who silently fears, abhors, and admires the class tramp, to the best friends in "Amanda" who grow up together, only to learn that one of them has been keeping a secret from her confidant, the girls in these stories use their friendships as a source of support and comfort, as well as a jumping-off point to exploring their own fears and possibilities. Other stories, such as "Mother" and "The Olive Girl," depict the strengths and frailties of adult women's relationships.
