"The Essential Cadillac" and other stories. (Original writing)
Howard Gold knows how to "play ball," to do whatever he must do to placate his family, his father. He loves and respects his father, Jake, but that isn't enough. To Jake Gold, a man must understand the street, the dirty business of living in a world where a man is judged by the part in his hair, the size of his bank account. This collection of three stories explores the difficult and delicate relationship between a father and his son: a nine-year-old Howard is taken by his father to see the neighborhood in which the older man grew up in; a still young, Howard, tries to cure his speech impediment with the help of his inventive friend; in the title story, an older Howard, a journalist, quits his job and returns home after his brother is seriously injured in a car accident.
