Wisdom Teeth is a collection of original poems about the multilayered life, loves, losses, and learned lessons of a young, black, male, thriving poet, who decided that he wanted to introduce his many selves and many voices to whomever wanted to listen. The blues tradition of Sterling Brown lives here. Hip-Hop lives here. Wild passionate sex lives here. Awkward adolescent feelings live here. Anger lives here. Joy lives here. Love lives here as well. If anything, this title represents the struggle that took place in order to make room for all of these voices, feelings, and personas. Like the arrival of wisdom teeth to the mouth, the growth of this collection was inevitable, irritating, painful, but in a necessary experience, and with experience comes wisdom.
