Where Schrödinger’s Cat Waits is a collection of original short fiction that aims to address what it means to occupy multiple spaces at once. Drawing on my experiences of growing up both in South Africa and the United States, I hope to explore the many ways identity intersects. In “Uninterrupted Salad Days,” Nadine stands on the precipice of adolescence, wanting to join her peers who are growing up faster than her while “The Changeling” deals with fresh-off-the-boat Yasmin’s trouble assimilating to American teen culture. In these strange and sometimes darkly funny stories, the every day little things are translated into serious questions, like who are we when we’re not forced to choose?
