WHAT HIT HIM SO HARD is a collection of thirteen fictional short stories that concern themselves with an exploration of our culture via our use of language, and with the difficulties we face when trying to connect with each other in relationships. The stories range stylistically: "What Hit Him So Hard," "A Brand New Me," and "She's Not A Girl Who Misses Much" are traditional narratives. "Valentine's Day," "Research Findings," "Secret Life," "How We Spend Our Waking Hours," and "Ertia" are stories created by following the narrative line generated when a metaphor is made concrete. "Virtuosity" is a piece of magical realism. "Why We Rejected Your Application," and "The Quickest Way" are non-narrative stories that approach relationship problems through word-play. "His Life and Work" attempts to tie several of the stories together with a fictionalized interview of their fictitious author. "A Robbery" is a piece of meta-fiction.
