Wake up, amen

thesis
posted on 2025-03-13, 17:59 authored by Laura Lannan

Wake Up, Amen explores how, in a world ravaged by grief, sickness, and existential terror, one continues to wake up each morning and face the insurmountable. The collection draws inspiration from the French surrealists including Charles Baudelaire and André Breton, as well as the sensitivity of Louise Glück and the imagery and effortless lyricism of Ada Limón. A collection in two parts, Wake up, Amen questions how one grows into their 'adult' selves despite being constantly re-buried by pain, while being passionate about living with feminine flourish, though still introspective and always questioning what it is we are doing here.
