Upland Southerner and Yankee in the old Northwest: A study in cultural adjustment

The purpose of this study is to describe the cultural competition between, and the eventual amalgamation of, upland Southern and Yankee elements in that part of the Old Northwest where these elements most sharply confronted and intermingled with each other.
