The six short stories contained in Under Tomorrow's Sun each examine, in very different ways, the problem of psychological "doubleness," the very human need to create idealized (or demonized) visions of ourselves, and yet to hold them separate from our everyday lives. The struggle between the fantastic and the real, between the individual and his doppelganger, challenges each character's sense of "self." In some stories the confrontation elicits a remarkable change, and a realization that the psyche must find a balance for its internal conflicts. Other characters resign themselves to stasis, unwilling or unable to mitigate, dreaming of a better life under tomorrow's sun.
