In regard to the treatment of unaccompanied minors (UAMs) arriving at their borders, neither France nor the USA are in compliance with either international migration law or each countries’ own child protection legislation. Research reveals that this noncompliance with the above referenced international and domestic laws has led to a breakdown in protection for UAMs, thus increasing these children’s vulnerabilities and enhancing their chance of falling victim to severe forms of sexual and labor exploitation.
