In crochet, a turning chain creates the height of a new row and acts as the first stitch of that row. The inception of turning chain occurs in Part 1 of this book where the poet stitches together scenes from childhood to form a geographical concept of home. Part 2 acts as turning chain to the collection, setting up Part 3, where the poet begins her "new row," by way of a spiritual inquisition into earlier concepts. In the development of her turning chain, the poet profoundly realizes the vital connections that arise between people, between places and between both.
