This study is an attempt to present a synopsis of the four trends concommitant with educational thought, e.g., conservative, liberal, reactionary and radical, with a view toward gaining an insight into the aims, goals, and implications of Reconstructionism as expounded by Dr. Theodore Brameeld, its foremost exponent. There is a further attempt to evaluate the Reconstructionists's contention that a more effective social order can be brought about by the schools. In addition, this study proposes to weigh the applicability of Dr. Brameld's assertion that social consensus is a reliable standard of social action.
