The woolen and worsted textile industry in a transition period, 1939-1952: A case study

The wool textile industry is confronted with grave problems that are presented most dramatically by the recent closing of mills in one-industry cities like Lawrence, Massachusetts. The industry, although 23rd in size of 1947 shipments value of 452 United States Manufacturing industries, has been suffering from overcapacity, increasing competition from man-made fibers and changing habits of the consumer.
