This paper is a study of the social and political thought of Dr. Juan José Arevalo, as expressed in his writings and speeches. The purpose involved is to extract key ideas expounded on various topics and to organize them into a meaningful thesis revealing a dominant pattern of thinking. A second objective is to trace the relationship of the author's social and political philosophy to contemporary trends of thought in Latin America and to appraise his contribution to the intellectual history of that region.
