The relationship between knowledge portal functionalities and business benefits

The first part of this study discusses the background information of knowledge portal. The major functionalities and benefits of knowledge portals are also identified and discussed comprehensively. In the second part, this study focuses on assessing the relationship between knowledge portal functionality and business benefits, instead of adopting quantitative or financial measurement of business values from the implementation of knowledge portals through 6 case studies. The results of the assessments indicate that the fundamental motivation for knowledge portal seems to be an increase in the productivity of knowledge workers. Eight of nine core functionalities of knowledge portal appear to have strong beneficial relationship with the business benefits of Increased Productivity. The findings also indicate knowledge portals provide substantial benefits of Costs Savings, and competitive advantages as well. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).
