The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of exposure to the Curriculum and Evaluation Standards: Addenda Series 5--8 on student's performance. This population experienced six activities. The study investigated the effects of these activities on (1) Test scores at end of the seventh grade which was compared to the test scores at the end of the sixth grade. (2) To what degree did the students employ the strategies to which they were exposed during problem solving? An important result of this study indicates that the students in the experimental group did better on the year-end final examination than the control group. Further. problems that were analyzed revealed that the experimental group chose better strategies than the control group even when the responses were wrong. Recommendations for further study are outlined.
