The effects of a summer mathematics enrichment program on Hispanic mathematical achievement
The purpose of this research is to determine the effects of the National Society of Hispanic Masters of Business Administration (NSHMBA) Summer Mathematics Enrichment Program on Hispanic students' Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) scores and general achievement in high school mathematics. The NSHMBA Summer Enrichment Program, which utilized an innovative curriculum, focused on preparing Hispanic students for college-track mathematics courses and improving communication skills. The NSHMBA enrichment program was an extension of former summer programs for Hispanic students and was designed to meet the demands of the new mathematics reform. Twenty-three students were selected for the three summer sessions based on their remedial mathematics placement. The study took into account the variables age, gender, PSAT scores, and grade point average and investigated the impact of the NSHMBA Enrichment Program on school achievement and student satisfaction with mathematics.
