The thesis is an inquiry into the types and uses of the Special Event tool among arts organizations. It determines that the tool has the potential to achieve many objectives for the organization simultaneously. The thesis contains a case study of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, an organization that uses the Special Event tool to its full potential. The thesis also includes the results of a survey of arts organizations in the Washington, D.C., area, which suggest that the Special Events tool is underutilized.
