The Russo-American matroshka: facilitating cross-cultural communication through the arts

This thesis analyzes how cultural diplomacy programming benefits cross-cultural communication. It establishes a set of Stratagems to use and discuss when creating programming. Later, it applies those Stratagems to two case studies, American University’s Carmel Institute of Russian Culture and History and the Embassy Series. Both D.C.-based organizations work to establish better cultural communication and understanding through their partnerships with the Embassy of the Russian Federation.
