The voluminous output of economic studies dealing with the consumption function during the past decade plus the continued growth of interest in business cycles among economists in this country and classroom discussions of the two topics made for an interest which led to this study of the role of the consumption function in business cycles. This work is not intended to be and is not a complete or new theory of the business cycle.
