The Role of International Scientific Organizations in World Affairs

Because of the divergent needs and interests of the different countries of the world, the sovereign state is an inefficient concept for achieving world harmony unless extensive reliance is placed on international cooperation. For centuries many methods and strategies have been tried in an attempt to arrive at real cooperation and peace between nations. Since World War II these methods have been predominately focused, with indications of considerable success, on increased participation in international organizations and in recent years there has been a tremendous growth in the memberships and numbers of institutions of this type.
