The Relationship between Social Deprivation and Automobile Prestige for Negro Male Pleasure Automobile Owner Operators

Reaction to social deprivation is generally discussed under three headings, i.e., aggression, avoidance, and acceptance. The present study investigated, on an exploratory basis, the relationship between one type of reaction, aggression--as reflected in the characteristics of automobiles, owned and operated; and relative deprivation in social status of Negroes in the U.S.A> as reflected in background or environmental and personal variables. What is the effect of segregation in childhood on the conspicuous consumption behavior of Negroes?
