The Mysteries of the Flesh. (Original writing)
Must there be antagonism between body and soul? Is the soul the only worthy winner? I believe that all acts of love are corporal acts, and the body is the only tangible proof of the soul. The title story in this collection of short stories refers to "misplaced affection and ruptured love" in its attempt to illustrate that love is as much a faculty of the body as it is of the spirit--which to me is what incarnation means. Each story confronts this inseparability of flesh and spirit: The young woman in Samaritans has allowed a maimed hand to wound her soul, the young husband in Mr. Cinnamon has vested his fertility in his pet cat, the dying woman in The Invention of Radio hears her pain as a sour music, and the old priests in Desiderata confront their broken idealism in their broken bodies.
