The Life of John Mercer Langston

For many years efforts have been made to evaluate the progress of the Negro in America by measuring the national importance of the leading men of that race. Historians have tried diligently to present an objective view of these men's lives before the public. However, either in haste or in an anxiety to please the demands of the populace for information concerning the Negro, the lives of many leading Negro citizens have been overlooked or have been slightly explored by writers of Negro and American History.
