<p>In January of 1919 the Amir Faisal arrived in Paris at the head of the Hejaz Delegation to the Peace Conference. His mission there was to press claims for a Near East settlement that guaranteed the unity and independence of the Arab lands. A champion in the Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire, of which his father, King Hussein of the Hejaz, has been a prime instigator, Faisal hoped to convince the Western statesmen of what he staunchly believed to be undeniably the justice and right of his case.</p>
