Among the many crises that threatened the uneasy peace in Europe during the years between the First and Second World Wars, the Spanish Civil War may be said to have been one of the most complicated from the point of view of international relations, The war in Spain was not simply a civil war; it became a compound of international frictions through the direct and indirect interference of outside interests.
