The Hygiene of the Mind, with Especial Reference to the College Age
The mental hygiene movement seeks to instill a better knowledge of the workings of the human mind. It is particularly concerned with all forms of research which will assist in clarifying the causes of mental disorder, its prevention, its management and eradication. It aims to discover less wasteful and more efficient means for dealing with this problem and when found to urge such measures, unceasingly upon those who direct the trends of public thought (51).For the mental hygienist who works in the sphere of preventive mental medicine, he finds his field to be an ever widening one, for as knowledge advances, its scope advances and overlaps and impinges upon many other education fields, with which he suggests the closest association and cooperation to obtain the best results to the human mind for whose efficiency and completeness we are all interested.
