The House that Verse Built is a collection of original poetry about the importance of home in shaping the way people interact with the world. Its three sections are based on the structure of a house, which the author uses as a means of discussing the construction that each of us builds to survive. The first section, Foundation, considers the part that family and childhood experience play in developing human personality and expression. The second section, Interior Design, examines the conflicts that often occur between the inner self and the roles people are expected to perform for the benefit of others. The final section, Windows, grapples with not only the disconnect that can arise when people of different backgrounds interact, but also the connection between all human beings that often leads us, inevitably, back home.
