The History of Public Education in Fauquier County, Virginia, 1871-1954

PurposeThe purpose of this study has been to consider briefly the historical and educational background of Fauquier County prior to the establishment of the public school system in 1871 and to present the history of education in Fauquier County from 1788 to 1954.ProcedureThe source material for this study has been largely primary having been compiled by the investigator from oldest inhabitants, Hening's Report, A Hornbook of Virginia, Acts of the Assembly of Virginia, Deed Books in the Fauquier County Clerk's Office, United States Statutes At Large, Virginia Supreme Court's Decisions, reports filed in the office of the State Superintendent of Schools, and records filed in the office of the Superintendent of School of Fauquier County.
