The Growth and Disposition of German External Assets in Austria

The problem of German external assets in Austria is a growth stemming from the economic encroachment of a large nation upon a small neighbor; but there were other contributory roots. It was also a derivative of geographic propinquity, linguistic affinities, a common racial heritage, and subjection to similar historical pressures.Although these elements were not, of themselves, necessary antecedents to German penetration, they were assisting concomitants. German economic penetration was widespread throughout Europe, but nowhere was such complete control achieved as in Austria.
