The Government of Oak Ridge, Tennessee: A Review and Analysis of Major Problems Involved in Operating a Federally-Owned Municipality, 1942-1950

In 1942, the Federal government through an organization known as the Manhattan Engineer District (MED), attached to the Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army, established a community known as "Oak Ridge", in the State of Tennessee. This community was originally planned to be a temporary site housing for some 12,000 employees and their families. At its peak, Oak Ridge reached 82,000 people.
