The Gin: Its Economic Contribution to the Development of the Cotton Industry in the U. S

The purpose of this paper is to give a history of the part played by the cotton gin in the economic development of the cotton industry in the Unitec States. In order neither to magnify nor minimize this contribution and to put it in its natural setting, the growth and development of the cotton plant will be discussed first, after which, the evolution of spinning, the invention and improvement of the cotton gin, and its effect on the cotton industry, will be taken up in the order named.
