The First 100 Days: Leadership Strategies for First-Time Artistic Directors in Regional Theatre
In today’s American regional theatre, artistic directors are primarily tasked with the determination and pursuit of the organization’s artistic vision. However, few development opportunities or teachings exist to adequately prepare oneself for the top artistic role. This is especially evident when a leader takes the role for the first time. Additionally, first-time artistic directors, like leaders in almost every sector, face pressure to perform right away especially in the first 100 days. This research seeks to uncover the information first-time artistic directors need to succeed both in the short and long term. With a well-planned and intentional first 100 days action plan, these artistic leaders can combat this lack of information and chart a path for organizational success.
