I. THE PROBLEMThe history of cooperative movement has existed more than a century since it was orderly organized in 1844 by a group of weavers in Rochdale, England. Since then it has become a social and economic movement spreading all over the world, including Soviet Russia. The cooperative type of organization applies to many fields of business from retailing to manufacturing. To private businessmen the cooperative movement is a great challenge with its ever-growing activities along many lines in lower prices along with better services; to the enthusiastic social reformers it is a powerful revolution for a better economic order.
