Henry ran the cheapest dude ranch in Bandera, Texas. His broken down place, his aging body and his paltry income are constant reminders to him of his unsuccessful life. When he sees a spectacular race horse, he decides this is his ticket to being somebody--a one shot, last chance to show everyone he has what it takes to be a winner. Between his desperate attempts to find the money for the horse, Henry must play the cordial host to his assortment of guests. While, finagling surreptitious card games and sorting out a teenaged love triangle, Henry must hold at bay the affectionate attention of two determined women. Lusty Mary Frances is dogged in her attempts to get Henry to the altar, while Helen, a prim young southern matron, desperately needs the romance he brings into her life. Henry's inability to say "no" to women and his dubious quest for the fabulous race horse lead him to the unexpected and dangerous brink of self-awareness.
