The Asterisk After Freedom is a collection of 30 poems that begin with grief and end with a voice calling out to a generation who witnessed much sorrow and change. The work is heavily influenced by June Jordan's 'Poem About My Rights" and the Black Girl Magic Anthology. It examines the assault on the Black body being narrated from the psyche. The central metaphor of the book is a question waiting for answers and is related to the resilience and beauty--despite the systemic legacy of hatred and racism--which provide content for the collection.
