Farm legislation historically has been one of the most perplexing problems to face the United States Congress. The Agricultural Act of 1948 is an interesting and important benchmark in that history. This thesis will explore and evaluate the legislative-executive relationships in the passage of this farm law and will include an analysis of the major results. Running as a central theme will be the very apparent and practically universal desire among farm leaders and legislators for a feasible, long-range policy for peacetime agriculture.
