THE FORMS OF THINGS CHANGED INTO NEW BODIES

thesis
posted on 2024-05-10, 22:20 authored by Abigail Rizzo

The Forms Of Things Changed Into New Bodies is an original collection of poetry that explores the relationship between art, ancient myth, human psychology, the natural world, and more. For example, “Arethusa” is a poem influenced not only by Ovid’s telling of the myth, but by Charles Simic’s poem “The River”, and T.S. Eliot’s poem “Marina”. I retell Ovid’s myth through my own interpretation, focusing on autonomy and ambiguity as they relate to life, death, and freedom. Each poem in this collection attempts a configuration of similar complexity, drawing inspiration from works of art both ancient and contemporary, and from artists, authors, and poets alike.
