When we see stars smattered across the night sky, we're looking at a version of light that has traveled so far that its initial spark is no longer seen. But this doesn't matter. The sky remains astounding, and each star still appears individual and brilliant. The characters who ignite stories which are eventually revealed across a page are often as distant from that page as the first sparks are from the illuminating sky. Like their starry counterparts, fictional characters shed a light kindled eons ago. The stories in this thesis celebrate those hidden sparks of fiction.
