Standards for the master's degree

The purpose of this study is to list the colleges and universities in the United States that granted the master's degree in 1926 with the number of degrees granted and to ascertain from selected groups of these institutions, the principal requirements or standards which have been set in conferring the master's degree. The data for this study were obtained from questionnaires sent out by the United States Office of Education to 270 institutions which gave the master's degree during the year 1928. Seventy-nine of those 270 institutions were publicly controlled and supported, and 191 were privately controlled and supported.
