Soulfisting is a full-length collection of original poems about the speaker's quest for her true name as well as the knowledge that derived from that quest. The poems combine mythic symbols with scenes from everyday life to explore how one person lives important relationships with parents, lover(s), and self. In the background of these experiences is the speaker's yearning for fusion with another and/or herself, even when it promises to be painful. As the opening lines of part IV from "When Desire Collides with Fear" read, "I planned this before I was born:/ to be turned inside out/ and find what I could not be,/ live in its shadow.".
