Snare is an original novella that follows the journey of its narrator, Bee, a timid young woman who plays drums in a DC-based band. Bee is mid-song at a gig when she loses the beat of a song; suddenly, she feels isolated, off-beat, and off balance. Leaving DC for a new start, Bee meets Lois, an intriguing, aloof woman with whom she eventually settles in Missoula, Montana. Though Bee and Lois become friends and band mates, their relationship is underscored by their unspoken attraction. Also in Missoula, Bee forms a close friendship with a gentle, thoughtful young man named Hector. Though Hector is gay, he offers Bee intimacy and human connection---a connection she soon finds Lois incapable of giving her. Bee eventually finds her new start in unexpected ways: the strength to speak up, be herself, and reach outside of herself to make connections.
