The history of education in Savannah, Georgia, from the founding of the colony in 1733 to the advent of the public school system at the close of the War between the States, is characterized by the active participation of various nationalities and religious faiths. Anglicans from Britain, Moravians and Salzburgers from Germany, and Jews from Spain and Portugal lived in comparative peace in the Georgia Colony, free from the torments and persecution from which they fled their native lands.
