Responsibilities of Newspaper and Yearbook Advisors in the Public Senior High Schools of Washington, D.C

The publication of student newspapers and yearbooks is now traditional in the American educational system. These organs are produced primarily through the joint efforts of faculty advisers and students.This study was undertaken for the purpose of defining the role of the adviser in the production of newspapers and yearbooks. These questions frequently arise: Does the adviser produce the publication with the aid of a few gifted students, or do the students publish the organ with occasional advice from a member of the faculty? How free are newspapers to express student opinion? IS the language used that of the student or that of the administration?
