Redeeming Origins
We all hail from different homes. As we enter the world, we bring along with us our many aromas, our crucial nuances, and the exotic inflections of our tongues. Some of us come into the scene windblown and ragged, others roll in noisily, and some make their way in and out without a sound, unnoticed. The poems in this collection reflect how I worked my way into articulating the many voices of all the places, faces, and moments that I call home. Finding the perfect pitch, or the right volume for each voice was the drama that often unfolded in the evolutions of these poems. Certain voices threatened to howl from the pages, while others insisted on whispers. Urgency and risk have been the propellers that guided my intuitions and at precious times, I was able to sing at the highest frequencies or clear fog from foreign shores moving---in exodus.
