Student teaching, or "directed teaching", is accepted as a necessary part of every teacher's education. During the "directed" period of teaching, the student teacher is given the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge, principles, and philosophy gained from his cultural and professional college courses. Under the guidance of master teachers and supervisors, he - or she - is expected to acquire skill in the techniques and in the art of teaching to meet, to attack, and to solve most of the problems with which he will be confronted later as a regular teacher.
