This research project will answer the question: How has the national education policy No Child Left Behind affected the Arts Education Community and what has been the Arts Education community's response to this national policy? Since 1983, many research studies have been conducted with a focus on our nation's arts education programs. As NCLB approaches its first reauthorization, many arts education advocates are taking action to address challenges facing arts education programs nation-wide due to NCLB's strict requirements. This report investigates action being taken at the national policy level as well as the local level. Efforts to change the legislation at the policy level and local approaches to combating NCLB will be revealed and analyzed. Through careful and strategic planning, arts education supporters, at all levels, must continue to fight for the arts' place in our Nation's educational system.
