Nest Boxes

This novel focuses on Sam Metcalfe, a gay zookeeper living in Washington, D.C. Sam is frustrated by his job, overwhelmed by his commitments to friends and family, thirty-four years old, and alone. He feels trapped by the choices he has made in his life, but cannot determine which, if any, he would change. Over the course of a challenging year---a relationship with a 'perfect' man who ends up dumping him; the death of an older mentor at the Zoo; and significant changes to his relationships with his family and best friend (a restaurant owner whose mother is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease)---Sam discovers buried emotions, the freedom of not knowing what comes next, and a willingness to embrace the confusion and wildness of his life.
