Manchuria has been called the Alsace-Lorraine of the Far East. Strategically located between four countries, Russia (or the U.S.S.R.), China, Japan, and Korea, this huge territory plays an enormous role not only in Far Eastern politics, but also in the political interplay of the major powers of the world.Because of Manchuria's political position today, it perhaps may appear incorrect to state that Manchuria. as a separate entity, is located between Russia, Japan, Korea, and China, as if Manchuria were an independent state, or at least autonomous.
