Major Contributions of Brazil to the Theory and Practice of International Organization and Procedure from 1889-1949

On November 15, 1889, a new epoch began in the Americas when the last of the monarchical regimes in that part of the world set up a republic. Brazil had declared independence from Portugal in 1822, and had been governed under a constitutional monarchy from 1822 to 1889.The emperor ruled for fifty of those sixty-seven years has been called the strongest influence for democracy in the country. However that may be, it is certain that Don Pedro II helped work himself out of a job; and on November 15, 1889, he was quietly informed that he and his family would be exiled next day to Portugal.
