"Letters from a Young Doctor" is a mixed genre collection that finds as its subject the sometimes paralyzing myopia of medical training and the efforts of one student doctor to see past the blindness inflicted by his education. Linguistically, the narrative seeks to refigure medicine by resuscitating its pallid vocabulary. Tracing the arc of a medical education---from the gruesome realities of anatomy lab to the struggle to achieve more humane patient care in the wards the author strives to analyze and challenge the discourse of medicine: to break free from coagulated conceptual vocabularies that no longer summon the subversive, the sacred, and the heroic potentialities of a life in the healing arts.
